3 Ways To Avoid A Plateau
Words By: Margaret Galang, YMF Founder
It’s only early in the year, so you may still be getting into the swing of your exercise and healthy eating habits, but our bodies are very clever and does not take long to adapt to change. When our bodies get used to the changes we have made, it’s possible to experience a plateau in your results. Here’s 3 ways you can avoid hitting a plateau and continue to progress towards your goals.
1. Do different exercise.
Try adding in new forms of exercise that is different to what you normally do. For example – if you only ever do strength training, try adding in a run to your weekly routine, or if you’re a runner and always do a morning run, change it up and do strength training a few times a week instead. This will shock the body as it won’t be used to the new form of exercise.
2. Change up what you’re eating.
Are you a creature of habit and like to eat the same foods all the time? We find this particularly common when people create new healthy eating habits and find the healthy foods/meals they like to eat and just stick to it. If this is you, then get creative and try new foods and new recipes! Not only will this help you avoid a plateau, but it will also ensure that your body is getting all the necessary vitamins and minerals from a variety of foods.
3. Get out of your comfort zone.
Ah the comfort zone is a nice place to be, we all like to be there, but unfortunately that is not where change happens. Change occurs when we step out of our comfort zone and challenge ourselves. Getting out of your comfort zone may mean you need to push yourself harder, lift heavier weights, run further or faster, do different exercise, work on your weaknesses etc. The quicker you get out of your comfort zone, the quicker you’ll get your results.
