Getting Motivated After The Holidays

School is finally back! That means holiday mode is over and it’s time to get back to reality! If you’re like me and had a bit too much fun indulging over the holidays, then follow these steps to get yourself back into some healthy habits.

  1. Set your health and fitness goals for 2017. Write down 2-3 specific goals that you want to achieve this year. Make sure they are realistic and measurable so you know when you have achieved these goals. Set yourself time frames or specific dates, because without these deadlines you’re more likely to procrastinate and not get anywhere… Do you always set yourself a weight loss goal and never manage to achieve it? If so, try something different this year and set yourself a fitness goal (e.g. complete a fitness event of some kind). Shift your focus from the number on the scales and onto improving your fitness. More than likely, your weight loss will follow too.

  2. Create an action plan. Once you know what your goals are, create a detailed plan of action of how you’re going to achieve them. This can include things like – what exercise program are you going to do? How many times per week are you going to exercise? What changes are you going to make to your diet? What changes do you need to make to your overall lifestyle? What are you going to do differently each day that will bring you closer to your goals?

  3. Take action! The best way to get motivated is to just START! You’ve got your goals, you’ve got your action plan, now go and take action! There is never a perfect time to start, and putting it off is only slowing down the time it will take to achieve your goals. Do something today that will take you closer to your goals, no matter how small that thing is, at least you’re one step closer!

  4. Be consistent. One of my biggest tips for achieving any health and fitness goal is to be consistent. You won’t get there otherwise!
